Credit Reports

First, there is now way to know what needs to be fixed on your credit report, until you have it in black and white in front of you.  You cannot assume you have bad credit, or not know whats on there, and try to increase your score.  First step that you must take is get a free credit report from all 3 credit bureaus.  Once you have that in your had, you can get to work.

Here is what I have done in the past to fix my credit reports.  If I notice that there is a discrepency, or something that has been paid and still showing as unpaid on my report, I make a note.

Next, I write up a simple letter to the credit bureau asking for proof that that particular account is unpaid, and if they cannot produce proof, they need to remove it from my report.

The letter does not have to be elaborate, but make sure it is to the point with your account number in the body.

I have noticed that most of the times, either the credit bureau or the said account does not have proof or are just not organized enough to produce the proof in 30 days, which means that the account needs to be cleared from the credit report.

It is that simple.
